Michael Whalen
Pianist Michael Whalen has had a remarkably diverse career as a Emmy® award-winning composer for hundreds of television shows, dozens of films, theater productions, multi-media projects and on his own successful recordings as an artist and producer. Through it all, he has resisted the footlights as a performer - until now. Michael starts an ambitious series of concerts and special performances through out 2008 at Greenwich Village's charming Cafe' Vivaldi. Stop in from a chilly evening in a cozy room to hear Michael's romantic and lovely melodies... This is a special event to see him in such a small setting.

  9:30-11:00pm Sabine Kühlich
The great German Jazz-magazine „Jazzpodium" gave Sabine and Sheila Jordan in June 2006 the cover-story: "Absolutly outstanding German Jazz-singer". The compositions on her new album were written in Harlem. The 77 year young scat-legend Sheila Jordan joined for some songs: "This is wonderful and unique; and a great band too!". Sabine is accompanied by a superbly variable and intelligently grooving quartet, which moves to and from bossa and modal, bebop and ballad with amazing surefootedness. The band leader sings in multi-lingually with a powerful voice, sensuous expression and the unmistakable character of an artist who is heartfelt in her desire to let the listener in on her profound musicality. Latest CD: TWO GENERATIONS OF SINGERS Sheila Jordan + Sabine Kühlich.

In Cafe Vivaldi Sabine will perform her NY-Jazz-Compositions, Swing, beautiful ballads, using percussion-instruments. A fantastic Bass-Player joines the Trio: Joris Teepe (www.joristeepe.com - originally from Holland - now a real New Yorker. 7:30-9pm Alfonso Velez
Lyrical / Folk / Blues
Alfonso is breaking ground with his brand of lyrical rhythm and blues, yet he's honoring the sense of pace and timing the greats had.

The first son of a Mexican mathematician and a Cuban architect, Alfonso has lived in Moscow, Mexico City, San Juan, Buenos Aires, Barcelona, Trenton, Washington, DC and now New York. He performs constantly; active from Montreal down to Florida, London over to Rome, drawing crowds young and old. In Washington, he put together an eight-piece ensemble lush with horns, hammond, and a hell of a lot of vibe for his debut on DJBoy records. XM Radio invited him to record his full-length album at their Performance Studio in March 2007. The resulting eleven-song session titled, MAKE IT PLAIN, is available exclusively through DJBoy Records.

She emerged from it with a large following and established herself as major singer/songwriter on the New York scene and beyond.  NLX's second(2006) residency  "The Spring"- continued into Summer, Fall and Winter at Vivaldi, as her fans wanted more. And she is back with "more" new andexciting stuff in 2008.

Dan McCarthy

Tucksy is a New York-based genre-bending jazz band that focuses on the original writing of band-leader Dan McCarthy, as well as cover songs from well-known rock and pop bands. Conceptually, the band strives to create music that breaks the rules of jazz by blending bluegrass, rock, and country with a post-modern jazz aesthetic, and by fusing the grooves of hip-hop and funk music with the improvisational approach of jazz. Most importantly, the band focuses on melody and song-structure and creates music that appeals to a broad spectrum of listeners. Oh, and let it be known that this band is led by the combination of banjo and vibraphone; a first in the jazz world…. and bluegrass world… and country world… and rock world… But don't let the novelty fool you, as the pedigree of the players and the quality of the musicianship is apparent from the first note.
"Dan gives new visions of the mallet instrument..."

"INTERWORDS is one of the top 10 jazz CDs of the year"
